Digipack Devlopment

Having studied existing Digipacks both online and in stores such as HMV, I have discovered that the importance for the actual design of the layout of the digipack is very big. Many digipacks have different designs, and the ones I found most interesting and unique were ones with a unique layout and powerful album artwork. One album in particular that stood out to me was Coldplays album "viva la vida". This Digi pack was made of card and folded out it such away that it was like unwrapping a present to find the CD inside. It had a sleeve for a pull out booklet of lyrics and more artwork. The artwork chosen was of Eugène Delacroixs painting entitled Liberty Leading the People, which was slightly altered for the cover by using a white paint brush to draw the title "VIVA LA VIDA". The painting is very powerful and could represent the music inside the digipack. This album and many others have made it obvious to me the importance of a unique layout and album artwork.
My new development idea for my digipack is making the didipack in a box format. As you can see from the picture above I have designed the layout in a net format so it can be folded up to make a box shape. The CD holder will make the base of the box and be on the inside ( on the other side of the lyrics panel). The album cover will make the top the box with the lyrics on the bottom. I think this is a unique idea and haven't seen it been done before in similar media products.

First Draft of Digipack

As you can see above is the first draft of my Digipack. From left to right I will give you a small summary of what's going on in each panel of the digipack. This first panel is the Digipack cover. This will actually be on the other side of the panel as when it folds up it will appear on the back. However for visual purposes I have put it on the front just to show what each panel will show. The second panel is where the CD will fit into the Digipack. The third panel shows the lyrics and the final panel is just left blank so the consumer can appreciate the album artwork/background. Digi Pack Plan

I am going to Construct a Digi Pack for my chosen artist "The Next Forever"
This post is mainly to jot down some brief ideas for the artwork of the digi pack.

1) One idea I come up with is a picture of the beach sea front that will continue throughout each seperate side of the digpack sleeve, like one continuous picture. During research into the target audience, several members said that they would imagine the beach as a suitable place to shoot the music video due to what the lyrics of the song imply. It also has the water theme that the song lyrics include " and I'd swim upstream for you".
2) Another idea I've hand is to have a picture of a mans and a womans hand such as the actor's and actress' we used in our music video with them holding hands and wearing a ring. Also have words written on their hands in pen that say the word "love" in many different languages. I think this would be a romantic picture and represent the love of the couple and the lyrics and what the song is about. I think this image would work in black and white as this is conventions of romance such as those scenes that appear in Sin City when the couple are in black and white. I could make certain aspects of the album art in colour, such as the woman reds dress and lipstick in sin city. Perhaps have their rings in colour so the rings stands out and the audience could see that the couple are married and this song could be to do with love.
3) Below is a picture of a simple idea I have came up with of a recurring theme of newspaper clips forming a collage background. This is simple but effective as it arises questions about the newspaper stories and the meaning of them relating to the music. I have choosen Chinese extracts, which add another level of questions arising for the audience and make them think about why this theme was chosen and how it relates to the music.

Brief Synopsis Of Music Video

As our Audience Research concluded, our target audience would most like to see a 50/50 split between a performance and narrative based music video.
Below is a brief synopsis and a few ideas of what the narrative part of our music video could consist of:

A young couple, say in their 20's who are in love and predominantly the concept is to show several visuals of them just being in love and doing couple-ly things. This may consist of holding hands, kissing, spinning round in each others arms, hugging and playing around with each other such as tag. I think that these kind of ideas will create an impression for the audience that they are in love and the audience will easily be able to relate to the theme of the music video of being in love.
