Make Up

We both decided that the use of elaborate make-up is unnecessary in our video. The song has a very 'raw' and natural feel to it, as it was a home recording. And hence wee felt we would like to continue this natural-ness and not use any make up for the performance or the narrative sections of the video.
Another contributing factor to the non-usage of make-up is that neither of us have any knowledge of different types of make-up and how to apply it.

Location Shooting Plan + Annotations

If you click on the image above you will be able to see a satellite view of our chosen location - The Walks in Kings Lynn. This annotated map was created using the Adobe Photoshop software.

Digipack idea 1

Below is a document that I composed as part of my questionnaire. The purpose of the document was to give to people answering my questionnaire enabling them to see the 2 pictures of one of my digipack ideas. After handing them the pictures as a print out they then completed my questionnaire using the on-line questionnaire facility "Survey Monkey". The pictures I included on the first page of the document were the front cover of the digipack and the digipack as whole unfolded.

Now for the questionnaire:

QUESTIONNAIRE

Below is the on line questionnaire I composed for my audience to fill out about my music magazine advert. I handed them a print out version of my music magazine advert and then gave them the link so they could complete the questionnaire.

My Music Magazine Front Cover

Above you can see my final Digipack front cover. I constructed the front cover using Photo Shop CS3. I started with my photo of Lewis. As the initial photograph of lewis was not the right size/format of a typical digipack cover, I decided it would be a good idea to use the clone tool to make the picture bigger but still have the same scene. The next thing I decided to do to edit the image was to flip it over so it was basically a mirror image of this. The idea behind this was so that the blood on his chest was now on the left side of his chest, representing a bleeding heart. I decided this would make the digipack cover be more metaphorical and would allow my target audience to relate to the album cover. Another edit I did to the image was to change the sign that Lewis was holding. In the original photo Lewis is holding a sign saying Monsieur Lewis. I thought that it would be better for the digipack cover to use his stage name of The Next Forever as this would enable my target audience and his fans to notice his name and recognise it. Another reason for changing the name is to stop any confusion arising to the viewers. I then developed the idea of changing the name to change it to the actual song title name and then have The Next Forever in another area of the digipack album cover. So now I changed the sign he was holding to say the tracks name - "Upstream". I did this by using the clone tool to select an area of the sign in which the sign hadn't been wrote on and then colour over the writing. I then used the paint tool and a graphics tablet to handwrite the word "upstream" on the sign. Next I had to create a album title. This process involved going onto www.dafont.com and from there I downloaded a font that I thought would be ideal for the album cover. I then installed the font onto the computer and then opened it on photoshop. When it came to selecting a colour for the title, I decided red would be an appropriate colour for the album cover. This is because red connotes thoughts of romance and this as the songs theme is about love I thought this would be appropriate. I then decided to use the colour of the fake blood from lewis' heart in the image. To do this I extracted the colour from the heart using the pipette tool. Then I selected the font and composed the title. I thought it would be a good idea to link up some of the text to make it flow more. I did this using the graphics tablet and the paint tool. I drew lines to link up some of the letters such as the letter "x" in the word "Next" and the letter "v" in the word "Forever". I thought this looked nice and made the title more interesting looking and visually appealing.

Digipack Devlopment

Having studied existing Digipacks both online and in stores such as HMV, I have discovered that the importance for the actual design of the layout of the digipack is very big. Many digipacks have different designs, and the ones I found most interesting and unique were ones with a unique layout and powerful album artwork. One album in particular that stood out to me was Coldplays album "viva la vida". This Digi pack was made of card and folded out it such away that it was like unwrapping a present to find the CD inside. It had a sleeve for a pull out booklet of lyrics and more artwork. The artwork chosen was of Eugène Delacroixs painting entitled Liberty Leading the People, which was slightly altered for the cover by using a white paint brush to draw the title "VIVA LA VIDA". The painting is very powerful and could represent the music inside the digipack. This album and many others have made it obvious to me the importance of a unique layout and album artwork.
My new development idea for my digipack is making the didipack in a box format. As you can see from the picture above I have designed the layout in a net format so it can be folded up to make a box shape. The CD holder will make the base of the box and be on the inside ( on the other side of the lyrics panel). The album cover will make the top the box with the lyrics on the bottom. I think this is a unique idea and haven't seen it been done before in similar media products.

First Draft of Digipack

As you can see above is the first draft of my Digipack. From left to right I will give you a small summary of what's going on in each panel of the digipack. This first panel is the Digipack cover. This will actually be on the other side of the panel as when it folds up it will appear on the back. However for visual purposes I have put it on the front just to show what each panel will show. The second panel is where the CD will fit into the Digipack. The third panel shows the lyrics and the final panel is just left blank so the consumer can appreciate the album artwork/background. Please click to enlarge the picture.

Digi Pack Plan

I am going to Construct a Digi Pack for my chosen artist "The Next Forever"
This post is mainly to jot down some brief ideas for the artwork of the digi pack.

1) One idea I come up with is a picture of the beach sea front that will continue throughout each seperate side of the digpack sleeve, like one continuous picture. During research into the target audience, several members said that they would imagine the beach as a suitable place to shoot the music video due to what the lyrics of the song imply. It also has the water theme that the song lyrics include " and I'd swim upstream for you".
2) Another idea I've hand is to have a picture of a mans and a womans hand such as the actor's and actress' we used in our music video with them holding hands and wearing a ring. Also have words written on their hands in pen that say the word "love" in many different languages. I think this would be a romantic picture and represent the love of the couple and the lyrics and what the song is about. I think this image would work in black and white as this is conventions of romance such as those scenes that appear in Sin City when the couple are in black and white. I could make certain aspects of the album art in colour, such as the woman reds dress and lipstick in sin city. Perhaps have their rings in colour so the rings stands out and the audience could see that the couple are married and this song could be to do with love.
3) Below is a picture of a simple idea I have came up with of a recurring theme of newspaper clips forming a collage background. This is simple but effective as it arises questions about the newspaper stories and the meaning of them relating to the music. I have choosen Chinese extracts, which add another level of questions arising for the audience and make them think about why this theme was chosen and how it relates to the music.
