Having studied existing Digipacks both online and in stores such as HMV, I have discovered that the importance for the actual design of the layout of the digipack is very big. Many digipacks have different designs, and the ones I found most interesting and unique were ones with a unique layout and powerful album artwork. One album in particular that stood out to me was Coldplays album "viva la vida". This Digi pack was made of card and folded out it such away that it was like unwrapping a present to find the CD inside. It had a sleeve for a pull out booklet of lyrics and more artwork. The artwork chosen was of Eugène Delacroixs painting entitled Liberty Leading the People, which was slightly altered for the cover by using a white paint brush to draw the title "VIVA LA VIDA". The painting is very powerful and could represent the music inside the digipack. This album and many others have made it obvious to me the importance of a unique layout and album artwork.
My new development idea for my digipack is making the didipack in a box format. As you can see from the picture above I have designed the layout in a net format so it can be folded up to make a box shape. The CD holder will make the base of the box and be on the inside ( on the other side of the lyrics panel). The album cover will make the top the box with the lyrics on the bottom. I think this is a unique idea and haven't seen it been done before in similar media products.
